Dear SACMO Supporter,
What I am about to write is based on some speculation, of course, but there is a good chance that I may be guessing right.
I believe that it is now time to start putting pressure on governor Holden to "see the light" and not veto the License To Carry bill that is very likely to arrive on his desk this year. Yes, that is right, I said, that I believe that a license to carry bill is likely to arrive on Holden's desk before the legislative year is through. This is based on some experience gained in fighting this fight for over 12 years as part of SACMO plus a recent conversation with Whit
O'Daniel, the representative from the NRA that has been the "front man" for them in Jefferson City for the last couple of months. He agrees with me that there is a better than even chance that LTC can make it out of both houses of the General Assembly this year.
I would give it a better than 75% chance that LTC will pass both houses of the Missouri General Assembly this year. Then, there are a whole bunch of scenarios of what this will mean to Gov. Holden and what he will do, but one of them (but not the strongest) is that it is in his best political interests to just sign "the damned thing" and get it over with. I'd give that one a less than 50/50 chance. But heck, that is a lot better than we have ever had in the last 12 years of trying to get LTC passed. So, to be safe, let's start calling, e-mailing, writing and calling the governor's office and, very politely, asking him to allow License To Carry
(HS HCS HB 349) to pass into law. It can't hurt anything but if I am right in my guessing, it could make some positive difference. If he vetoes it, both Whit and I believe that many of the democratic legislators that voted pro gun would not vote against "their" governor and support a veto override so let's do our part in preventing a veto. Send a message to governor Holden. Now, the next piece of news that has just come out today.
There is a committee hearing for HS HCS HB 349, license to carry, scheduled for 1:00 P. M. on Tuesday, April 8th in the Senate lounge. You can rest assured that both SACMO and your point of view will be well represented at that hearing. One never knows when a bill might be derailed but this is pretty clear evidence that LTC is on it's way to the next big step and eventually to the governor himself and I, for one am going to do everything in my power to help make my predictions come true and get license to carry passed into law for all of us.
Most
sincerely yours,
Dale
